Mooie extra info, trouwens de faq van Teleton is ook duidelijk. Echter voor mij een klein onduidelijk dingetje, ik heb email contact gehad met alamo over de vraag of een auto gehuurd in Atlanta ook gebruik kan maken van de sunpass (dus foto van kenteken.) ik kreeg daarop een mailtje waarin verschillende staten waren genoemd die dit ondersteunde. Naderhand zag ik pas dat Georgia er niet bij stond. Dus ik weer een mailtje gestuurd, krijg je weer een heel ander antwoord, dat je een kastje moet huren???
Ik ga er maar van uit dat het callcenter niet helemaal weet hoe het zit.
Ik kan het altijd nog vragen bij het ophalen van de auto of bellen als ik ter plaatse ben.
Ik zal mijn ervaring hier posten.

Of is je vraag misschien of je met een Alamo auto over alle tolwegen in de verschillende staten van de VS kunt rijden?

Naar aanleiding van bovenstaande een email naar HTAC gestuurd met als antwoord;

Dear Mr, I apologize, let me clarify our Sunpass program. All of Alamo's cars are registered with Sunpass, to activate the service all you need to do drive through the Sunpass Only lanes (the service doesn't work in the cash lanes). Around two weeks after you return the vehicle you will be charged for the tolls plus a convenience fee, which is 2.00 per day of use and up to 6.00 per rental.

What if I rented a car out of state?
It is no different than renting a car in Florida. If renting from a participating company, the Turnpike will bill the company for the tolls

@Calypso; ik heb dezelfde ervaring, hier wat quotes naar aanleiding van de vraag of je met een huurauto van Alamo vanuit Atlanta gebruik mag maken van de tolwegen in Florida met „hun systeem":

Alamo op 19 april 2011;

Our locations in Colorado, Texas, and Florida have the Toll Pass Service automatically processed to all rental vehicles if you go through a video toll way. You will be charged directly for any toll roads that are traveled on during the rental. This is more convenient and less costly to our customer's because you are not issued a citation or ticket if you forget to pay a toll. If you travel to avoid these toll ways, you will not be billed for the Toll Pass Service or any tolls. Please visit the website http://www.htallc.com/tollpass to view the toll receipts after your rental.

Antwoord van HTALC op 21 april 2011;

If you were to drive a car from Alamo to Florida, you would be able to go through the Sunpass lanes. There is nothing you need to do to activate the service other than drive through the Sunpass Only lanes. A picture of your license plate is taken and that is how the toll is picked up.
Please keep in mind that there is a convenience fee of $2.00 per toll usage day, not to exceed $6.00 for the entire rental period. The convenience fee remains inactive on the days that you do not use the toll roads.

De eerste twee waren best duidelijk maar omdat er in het antwoord van Alamo niet werd gesproken over een huurauto uit Georgia stelde ik de vraag nogmaals aan Alamo.

Hiero antwoorden Alamo op 25 juni 2011;

Thank you for your email. Alamo does not have a agreement with any states toll system, your information is incorrect. Alamo offers a toll pass "unit" that registers the toll fees as you drive through. It sends a signal to charged the credit card you left on file when you pick up your rental. You will see those toll fees listed on your receipt when you turn in the rental.

Dit vond ik wel een heel raar antwoord dus heb ik geantwoord dat ik andere informatie had, hierop kreeg ik het volgende antwoord op 26 juni 2011:

Regarding the "Agreement". A number of states have agreed to let Alamo rental cars with the "toll pass unit installed" pass through the tolls without having to stop. You then pay the toll fees that have accumulated and will then be added to your balance to Alamo when you return the rental.

Ik dacht nu snap ik het dus ik vraag voor de zekerheid het volgende:

Hierop krijg ik op 27 juni 2011 het volgende antwoord;

You have to purchase the toll pass from Alamo or instead of having toll charges added to your balance you will have citations waiting for you.

Inderdaad, heel duidelijk (net als in de faq) maar vond het wel bijzonder de antwoorden van Alamo zelf.

Ach, het zijn net Nederlandse energie-, telecom- of internetbedrijven.
Misschien bel/mail je wel met hetzelfde callcenter in India of zo.

Help: ik weet nu niet meer hoe het allemaal werkt.
Voorheen betaalden we gewoon contant bij de poortjes. Nu begrijp ik dat er bij veel tolwegen geen mogelijkheid meer is om contant te betalen.
Van de reisorganisatie hoorde ik dat je beter bij Alamo een auto kan huren dan bij Dollar. Ze legden uit dat je bij beiden een soort van creditcard moet kopen om op die manier je tol te kunnen betalen. Bij Alamo schijnt dat een paar euro te zijn en bij Dollar richting de 70 euro?? Klopt dit verschil??
En wat houdt zo'n sunpass sticker dan in?
Dus met andere woorden: wat heb ik nodig om de tolwegen te kunnen betalen?

De meest simpele manier is nog steeds de "Alamo optie"

Bij het afhalen van de auto neem je de zogezegde "SunPass" optie.
Alamo rekent hiervoor US$ 6,- voor de gehele huurperiode.
Daarna reken je iedere onderdoorgang van een tolpoort automatisch af.
Dit bedrag wordt dan gewoon van je credit card af gehaald, (vaak gebeurt dit pas als je al weer thuis bent).

Je kunt nu vanaf het moment van verlaten van de luchthaven meteen gelijk door iedere tolpoort heen...

Niets aan te melden... eigenlijk hoef je helemaal niets te doen...
