Vrbo tax paying I know someone else posted about a response from the Dept of Revenue in FL regarding Homeway collection of taxes.
Here is the response I received today:
The Department has received your e-mail stating you received notice from HomeAway/VRBO that effective December 1, 2018, HomeAway will be remitting the Florida Rentals Transient tax of 6% for your property for any rentals they make; therefore, you will only be remitting payment for rentals made outside of the HomeAway/VRBO platform. You asked if you have to still report your total rental income on your return, and include the rentals made by HomeAway.
The Department of Revenue has entered into a voluntary collection agreement with Homeway.com, Inc., effective December 1, 2018, to collect taxes on transient rentals administered and collected by the Department. HomeAway will be remitting the Transient rental tax they collect; therefore, the rentals made by HomeAway does not need to be reported on your tax return.
Thanks for the opportunity to respond to your inquiry. If you have additional questions, you may contact us at 1-850-488-6800.
Florida tax collection change.
like everyone, I was very concerned by this change for VRBO/Homeaway. After calling multiple times and emailing the state asking for something in writing absolving me from any issues with collection and remittance from VRBO/Homeaway, this is what they sent. Hope it may help you.

The address isn’t relevant as they don’t submit it on your behalf, they are filing taxes collected as their own business. yes that is correct. Since vrbo are no longer remitting taxes to you its not your resonsibity to collect. They are cooperating with state on this I think in order to increase state revenue. Due to prior noncompliance by owners.
