Standaard Bagage: Kleine messen, golfclubs en hockeysticks

De TSA is de scherpe regels m.b.t. wat er in de handbagage mee mag weer wat aan het versoepelen.

    Bericht van de TSA:
Statement on Changes to the Prohibited Items List
“Through TSA’s layered approach to security, and to align more closely with International Civil Aviation Organization standards, effective April 25, 2013 TSA will allow knives that do not lock, and have blades that are 2.36 inches or 6 centimeters or less in length and are less than 1/2 inch in width, novelty-sized and toy bats, billiard cues, ski poles, hockey sticks, lacrosse sticks and two golf clubs as part of their carry-on baggage. This is part of an overall Risk-Based Security approach, which allows Transportation Security Officers to better focus their efforts on finding higher threat items such as explosives.”

For more information on changes to small knives permitted in carry-on luggage and sporting equipment permitted in carry-on.
Please note these changes are effective April 25, 2013.
    Volgens NBC 6 South Florida:
The U.S. Transportation Security Administration announced that it will allow small knives and other previously restricted items like golf clubs and hockey sticks on the plane for the first time since the Sept. 11 attacks.

Vreemd dat je wel messen mee mag nemen maar een flesje water of flesje babyvoeding is verboden.... Of mag dat tegenwoordig ?

    Meer nieuws van de TSA:
Small Knives Permitted in Carry-on Luggage
Changes to the Prohibited Items List

In advance of the upcoming changes to TSA’s Prohibited Items List, effective April 25, 2013, the guidelines below on small knives permitted in carry-on luggage are provided to help passengers prepare for airport security procedures prior to checkpoint arrival.

TSA continues to evolve and strengthen its multi-layered approach to aviation security – through better technology, expanded data analysis capabilities and an enhanced understanding of current intelligence. The decision to permit certain items in carry-on luggage was made as part of TSA’s overall risk-based security approach and aligns TSA with International Civil Aviation Organization Standards and our European counterparts.

Small knives permitted in carry-on luggage must meet all of the following requirements:

    Permitted:
+ The blade must be no more than 2.36 inches or 6 cm in length – from tip to where it meets the handle or hilt
+ The blade must be no more than ½ inch in width

    Not Permitted:
    - Knives with locking or fixed blades
    - Knives with molded grips
    - Razors and box cutters

If a passenger is unsure if an item meets the above requirements, TSA recommends that the item be placed in checked luggage.
The final decision rests with TSA on whether to allow any items through security checkpoints.
    Dus:
Bij twijfel ... niet in je handbagage stoppen!

Over sportspullen die nu ook worden toegestaan:
Sporting Equipment Permitted in Carry-on Luggage
Changes to the Prohibited Items List

In advance of the upcoming changes to the Prohibited Items List, effective on April 25, 2013, the guidelines below on sporting equipment permitted in carry-on luggage are provided to help passengers prepare for airport security procedures prior to checkpoint arrival.

TSA continues to evolve and strengthen its multi-layered approach to aviation security – through better technology, expanded data analysis capabilities and an enhanced understanding of current intelligence. The decision to permit certain items in carry-on luggage was made as part of TSA’s overall risk-based security approach and aligns TSA with Civil Aviation Organization Standards and our European counterparts.

    Permitted:
+ Small novelty or toy bats are included in the changes and can now be transported as part of carry-on luggage.
+ Bats 24 inches or shorter in length or 24 ounces or less.
+ Bats longer than 24 inches and less than 24 ounces
+ The following sporting equipment is included in this change and can now be carried through airport security: billiard cues, ski poles, hockey sticks and lacrosse sticks golf clubs (limited to two).

    Not Permitted:
    - Full-size baseball, softball and cricket bats are prohibited items in carry-on luggage and must be placed in checked baggage.
    - Bats that are more than 24 inches in length and weigh more than 24 ounces

If a passenger is unsure if an item meets the above requirements, TSA recommends that the item be placed in checked luggage. The final decision rests with TSA on whether to allow any items through security checkpoints.

Travelers are encouraged to check with their airline or travel agent for policies as individual airlines may place additional restrictions on any item.
    Dus:
Van de TSA mag je een aantal sportartikelen meenemen als handbagage. Maar check altijd even bij de airline of zij het toelaten als handbagage!
