New Law Impacts International Drivers

During the 2012 legislative session, the Florida Legislature amended section 322.04, Florida Statutes, to require visitors from outside the United States to have an International Driving Permit in order to drive lawfully in Florida. This change took effect Jan. 1, 2013.

It has come to the Department’s attention that this requirement may violate the Geneva Convention on Road Traffic (1949), an international treaty to which the United States is a signatory. Treaties to which the United States is a party preempt state laws in conflict with them.

Therefore, the Florida Highway Patrol will defer enforcement of violations of the amended statutory section until a final determination of the alignment of the amendment with the treaty can be made. Non-resident visitors to Florida who wish to drive while here will be required to have in their immediate possession a valid driver license issued in his or her name from another state or territory of the U.S. or from their country of residence. However, the FHP will not take enforcement action based solely on the lack of an International Driving Permit.

Dus: de wet bestaat, maar wordt voorlopig niet uitgevoerd hangend verder juridisch gehannes.

Het lijkt er dus op (ook op de officiele website) dat al onze sneren over dit "vodje" ons nu in de kont gaan bijten

Gelukkig worden die bij ons gratis verstrekt (zoals ook het nationale rijbewijs) en zijn ze langer geldig.
Dus toch maar aanvragen voor we gaan.

Dit heb ik gekopieerd van het forum van uscarhire.com, daar heeft iemand gemaild naar de Fl. dept. of highways...etc.

Echt zo stom dit! Op mijn rijbewijs staat gewoon alles netjes in het Engels, dus waarom nog een keer een extra rijbewijs....

Waar haal je zo'n ding? ANWB?

Ons vodje wordt verstrekt door een particuliere organisatie en voldoet dus niet aan de eis

Omdat wij volgende week gaan net even contact gehad met de ANWB, en IDD het internationale rijbewijs is sinds 1-1-2013 verplicht in Florida.
Morgen dus even als een speer naar een ANWB winkel om de rijbewijzen op te halen..........

Even een reactie , met name voor trails....Wij vertrekken volgende week, dus ik heb even gegoogled. Je kan het inderdaad krijgen bij ANWB, maar helaas niet gratis! Het kost voor ANWB leden 17,95 en voor niet -leden 18,95. Kijk op www.anwb.nl ... Toch maar snel regelen, die Amerikaanse gevangenissen hoef ik niet van binnen te zien :-)
