Cheetah Hunt - (3/3/11) After yesterday’s big fuss over a possible miscalculation on Cheetah Hunt, I’m happy to report that I was able to get in touch with the park for a statement on the issue, which they report to be false. False as in there was no miscalculation… they have known all along that the they were going to lower the Skyride towers in that area to allow for Cheetah Hunt to jump over it. Here is the statement from the park below…
“…part of what makes Cheetah Hunt such an amazing addition is its use of an interaction with existing park elements. To make that happen, of course it has been necessary to make major changes to several park landmarks like Rhino Rally, the Clydesdale Hamlet, the Crown Colony and the Monorail Station.
Some of the more subtle changes include raising the floor in the Monorail Station, cutting back the waterfall outcropping in Rhino Rally canyon and moving some of the Serengeti Express’ train tracks. Some of the more major changes – many of which are immediately noticeable to guests in the area – that are taking place include building new guest bridges and pathways between Nairobi and Edge of Africa, building a seating terrace in front of the Crown Colony, replacing the Clydesdale Hamlet’s wooden stalls with secure “bedrooms” for the cheetahs, and, indeed, lowering certain Skyride towers near the area where the track “jumps” the cable.”

Cheetah Hunt Launch Testing

Busch Gardens’ Design & Engineering team has officially launched Florida’s first triple-launch coaster for the first time.
If you aren’t able to make it out to the park to witness it for yourself, we thought we’d give you a sneak peek:

The process begins by testing each of the three launch points over and over again at partial power with both empty trains and cars loaded with “water dummies.” Within a few days, the trains started making complete circuits around the track’s 4429-foot run.
But how soon will actual people replace the water dummies? “We will run more than 3,000 cycles of the ride before we put humans on it,” says Mark Rose, Busch Gardens’ Vice President of Design & Engineering. When the time comes, Rose will be one of the first people to ride.

After long delay, Cheetah Hunt ride gets on track at Busch Gardens
TAMPA — Roller coaster lovers, rejoice. Cheetah Hunt is back in business.

Busch Gardens' long-awaited and much-hyped coaster attraction did not open Friday morning as planned, frustrating hundreds lined up to be the first to ride it. The ride had some technical problems but was fixed and ready to roll by mid-afternoon Friday, said Busch Gardens spokeswoman Jill Revelle.

"This is not uncommon," Revelle said. "It's a brand new ride with new equipment and new sensors, and the sensors are tripping."

Revelle said ride operators wanted to make sure Cheetah Hunt is running consistently before they put people on it. She said the same thing happened when SheiKra opened several years ago.

Several Busch Gardens visitors expressed their frustration on the park's Facebook page Friday morning.

"I will be demanding a full refund of my admission today and canceling my annual pass because of the failed attempt of the so called opening of cheetah hunt!" posted Antonio De La Garza. "We waited in line after line just to be turned away!"

"I'm pretty (peeved) too," wrote Don Lamb.

Others defended Busch Gardens. "The park doesn't owe any of you anything,'' Steve Nuss wrote. "It's a new ride, things happen."

Busch Gardens posted the following statement on its Facebook page: "High performance coasters and thrill machines rely on sophisticated, finely tuned parts. Sometimes mechanical delays are a fact of opening day. The safety and comfort of our guests is always our primary concern. We thank our guests for understanding as we work to get the ride running as soon as possible. We promise the wait is worth it.''
