Ik blijf het een vreemd idee vinden..

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed legislation that would create a public-private partnership aimed at promoting the United States as a top international travel destination.The “Travel Promotion Act” now returns to the Senate, which previously passed the bill. The House voted 358-66 in favor of the bill.
“The need for travel promotion has never been greater," Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, said in a news release. “As the recent vote of the International Olympic Committee demonstrated, the United States must invest in better explaining its security policies and attracting foreign travelers. The Travel Promotion Act is a 'win-win' for our economic and diplomatic efforts.”
The Travel Promotion Act of 2009 would be funded through “private sector contributions” and $10 “user fees” paid by international visitors. The bill does not rely on American taxpayer dollars and would result in a $400 million Travel Promotion Fund, its sponsors say.
“The Travel Promotion Act will not only boost travel and create jobs in the tourism industry, it will enhance America’s image around the world,” U.S. Rep. Bill Delahunt, D-Mass., said in a news release. “Over the past eight years, the United States’ share of the world travel market has decreased by nearly 20 percent, costing thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in revenue. We need to reverse that trend and create more jobs here at home.”
Opponents say the legislation could actually hurt tourism because of the increased costs to visit the country.

Ik blijf het een vreemd idee vinden..

Ik zal er zelf zo 1,2,3 niet voor wegblijven, het is per slot van rekening maar 4 dagen extra sparen voor de jaarlijkse reis....:-& Maar ik heb zelden zo'n 'slimme' promotieactie gezien. Doet me een beetje denken aan de oude kermisattractie "hier d'r in....., daar d'r uit". 't Kostte maar een kwartje, maar dan had je ook niks! En het gevolg was dat bezoekers, uit angst dat ze ook daar belazerd zouden worden, niet meer naar de dame met de baard en de waarzegster gingen........#-oZo jaag je je klanten de tent wel uit. Zoals de Dire Straits al zongen in Money for Nothing: "Now look at them yo-yo's that's the way you do it..."

The fee is collected once every two years in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security’s Electronic System for Travel Authorization. No money is provided by U.S. taxpayers.

Dus eerst een systeem introduceren waarvan iedereen denkt; "dat is makkelijk, eindelijk van die formulieren in het vliegtuig verlost" en er daarna geld voor vragen.

'T lijkt de Nederlandse regering wel. Of is een vergelijking met een pusher meer op z'n plek :-)

Ach ja, je hebt er pas over twee jaar weer last van als je dit jaar je ESTA invult.
En dan komen ze er denk ik achter dat het toch niet zo'n heeeel slim idee was..

Hier moet je toch zeker voor gestudeerd hebben, om zo'n mooie naam te bedenken die dan ook nog geld oplevert....:-s
