Tampa-to-Havana charter flights begin in September
TAMPA – Direct flights from Tampa International to Havana will begin in September, officials announced this afternoon.
The Cuban government awarded the landing rights to Miami-based ABC Air Charters. At a press conference at Tampa International, ABC president Tessie Aral said weekly flights will begin in September and go to twice a week in October. Round-trip fares will be in the range of $399 to $459, Aral said. American Airlines will supply Boeing 737-800s for the flights.
It has been almost a half century since TIA has offered service to Cuba. Before the Cuba trade embargo was enacted in 1962, National Airlines flew DC-7s daily from Tampa International.
In March, Tampa International was among eight airports named as new gateways to Cuba by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
More than 80,000 Cuban-Americans live in the Tampa Bay area, the third-largest population in the United States after South Florida and metro New York. Previously, passengers have had to drive to Miami, which along with New York and Los Angeles were the only federally approved gateways for Cuba flights until March.
ABC Charters of Miami, which already has flights to Cuba, will supply the Tampa to Havana connection. According to the company's web site, its customers include the U.S. State Department, ABC Sports and the Baltimore Orioles.

Dus als ik het goed begrijp is er op al een connectie met Cuba, vanaf Miami!
