• For $199, you get a five-member team entry (up to a $425 value).
FL.ROC Running Obstacle Challenge puts runners through a 3.35-mile course over rocky terrain peppered with more than 20 challenging obstacles. During the Jacksonville race, teams of racers and adventure-thirsty solo runners shimmy up military walls and splash through mud pits. Sprinting to the beat of broadcasted tunes, newly forged extreme athletes navigate the course as deftly as cheetahs with ballet training, the surest-footed snagging awards for individual achievement or team athleticism by age group. Upon crossing the finish line, racers fill one hand with an etched pint glass and the other with a cool beverage—beer for those of age. Waterproof radio frequency chips document runners' times through rain, shine, or strategically placed kiddie pools. Runners need their photo IDs for registration packet pickup, which starts at 8 a.m., and should bring a change of clothes to stay comfy during post-race celebrations. Medical personnel keep watch over racers from stations throughout the course, feasting professionally trained eyes on the participants, many of whom don costumes to amuse fellow runners and express their love for brightly colored spandex.
