Downtown St. Petersburg will be buzzing with activity, both on the ground and in the air above Albert Whitted Airport this weekend as planes big and small take to the skies for the St. Petersburg AirFest. Always a favorite of kids, the AirFest draws some 10,000 people a day to drop their jaws as stunt pilots and military F-18s show off aerobatic feats and rattle windows.
An array of other attractions, including military demonstrations, skydivers, helicopter rides and music will be on hand. There will be a food court, vendors and, for groundlings, a classic car show.
Bring a camera, sunscreen and beach chairs or blankets to sit on. But leave the coolers, pets and skateboards at home. Pack light and bring water because traffic is heavy and you likely will be carrying your stuff a long way.
It's from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, with performances from 1 to 4 p.m. both days, in downtown St. Petersburg. Enter at First Street and Fifth Avenue S. Admission is $10 for adults in advance, $15 day of show. Children 6-12, $5. Under 6, free. On-site parking is $5. Go to www.stpetersburgairfest.com for tickets.
