Wij zijn nu zo ongeveer 3 weken terug van onze heerlijke vakantie in Florida. Ik vond het dus weer tijd om wat foto's te laten zien van The Sunshine State! Onze favoriete bestemming die we graag bezoeken is toch wel Key West. Waarom? Om het maar op z'n Amerikaans te zeggen; Key West is a step back into time, in fact, into no time. It's a place of slow pace, of changing attitudes, of free-flowing spirits and free spirited individuals.

Dit was onze huurauto. Een zeer fijne comfortabele auto. Alle koffers erin en rijden maar!

The Grand, ons favoriete restaurant zit gevestigd aan Duval Street. Hier kan je heerlijk eten, echt een aanrader. Tip: Vergeet niet naar het visitor center te gaan, op de balie liggen discountcoupons die je o.a. in the Grand kan besteden. Deze keer een gratis glas wijn bij je lunch, of een gratis fles wijn bij het diner!

Word je moe van het lopen en wil je een smakelijke verkoeling, ga dan naar Fogarty's Bar & Restaurant, daar zit ook the Flying Monkey bar, waar je overheerlijke frozen Pina Coladas (Creamy coconut pineapples and rum) kan drinken!

Voor iedereen die nog naar Key West gaat: Heel veel plezier op dit mooie eiland!

Mijn foto's zijn echter, maar dan alleen van Key West vanuit een Waco UPF-7 biplane uit de jaren '40. Leuke rondvlucht gedaan rond het eiland op zo'n 500 voet. :mrgreen:
Maargoed, je buurvrouw van 70 ziet denk ik niet het verschil tussen een flightsimulator en in het 'eggie'. :)

Tis jammer dat FSX (Flight Simulator) zulke platte beelden gebruikt, maar 10 jaar geleden zag het er helemaal niet uit. :) Met Google Earth heb je het in elk geval niet slechter nu van de Keys. Ik heb trouwens ook zo'n idee dat ze met de Google auto nog eens rond zijn rijden want sommige Street View plaatjes in bijv. Kissimmee zijn ook erg scherp, ongeveer net zo scherp als in Nederland.

Hier even een verkleinde foto van die vlucht. Stukje Mallory Square. Helaas geen cruiseschip en het was een beetje bewolkt die dag.

Onze trip naar Key West was weer geweldig! Keer op keer geniet ik met volle teugen van o.a. de flora en fauna van de Florida Keys. Hieronder zo maar wat foto's van Big Pine Key, waar je de Key Deers kunt zien. Verder wat foto's van palmbladeren, bloemen enz. De rest van de foto's van onze trip naar Key West volgen over een weekje. Ik heb helaas geen tijd meer om de rest te plaatsen. Morgen vertrek ik naar Nederland.

Hoi hoi. Wij wilde volgend jaar oktober toch maar een keer key west aandoen zijn al vaak in Florida geweest maar nog nooit key west .nu had ik een paar vragen en misschien weten jullie hier een antwoord op. Is het in de avond ook leuk en levendig op de keys dit omdat we met 3 ouderen kids gaan van 17 19. En 20 jaar en ik wilde vragen of iemand van jullie een leuk schoon en een beetje goedkoop hotel weten bij het strand alvast bedankt voor de reacties. Groetjes Diana

Ik kan iedereen aanraden rechtstreeks naar Key West te vliegen. Wij hadden een vlucht vanaf New York en overstap in Fort Lauderdale (helaas wel met 8,5 uur vertraging). Vanaf Fort Lauderdale of Miami ga je verder met een klein propellor vliegtuig met 19 zitplaatsen. Deze vliegt laag over de Everglades en Keys en bij het landen vlieg je over Key West. Wij vonden het een geweldige ervaring.
